Sunday Snippets ✂️ #47
At 77, she's as fit as a 25 year old, the truth about cholesterol, home health tests for reaction time, what to do about pelvic floor dysfunction, how do we find hope, live webcams in nature and more!
Good Morning Everyone! I recently returned from spring break in San Francisco where my husband Tim and I spent some vacation time with 4 of our 5 adult children. Getaways and vacations are not a common occurrence for us but they SHOULD be. Every time I return from one I tell myself how important it is to take a break from the daily routine and get out of dodge. I should plan the next trip now while I am motivated!
I love the range of topics that I have for you this Sunday. It runs the gamut and I hope that each of you finds a snippet or two that is helpful. Personally speaking, I enjoyed reading about my favorite Masters runner who at the age of 77 is an absolute running machine! If running is not your thing, I have many more topics to explore.
If you don’t have the energy to read a snippet today, that’s OK too! Check out the live nature webcam that is my final snippet. It’s SO COOL! 😎
At 77, she’s as fit as a 25 year old
Imagine running a marathon in 3 hours and 33 minutes at the age of 77 years old? That’s exactly what Jeannie Rice did last year at the London Marathon. “Her physiology is so striking that her maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) - a measure that reflects her aerobic fitness and endurance capacity - equals that of a 25-year-old woman, according to lab tests.” People like her just blow my mind!
The Truth About Cholesterol. 12 Things You Ought to Know
There are SO many myths out there about cholesterol. Did you know that eggs aren’t big contributors to high cholesterol levels? What about shellfish? This article does a great job dispelling these myths. And, if you are someone who is considering lifestyle changes over statins to reduce your cholesterol, this topic is addressed too.
Quick Home Health Tests. Check Your Reaction Time.
Are you familiar with the “Ruler Drop Test”? Neither was I until I read this article. It’s a simple home test that you can take to determine your reaction time. There has been so much news around maintaining balance as we age but I would argue that reaction time is equally important.
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. What It Is and What To Do About It.
Several years ago I taught an exercise class where we did a fair amount of jumping and hopping. I started to notice that many of my female clients would run to the bathroom during the workout. I soon referred to the class as “Tinkle Tuesday.” If you can relate, read this snippet! 🤭
How Do We Find Hope In A Moment Such As This.
This short but sweet article may give you some insight on how to navigate life when our world overwhelms and disappoints us. It was a helpful read for me.
I sure hope you have the time to check out this link because it’s SO COOL!! These live webcams bring nature directly to you! I found myself watching a bald eagle in its nest this morning then I scrolled to a mama dog feeding her new puppies. 🐶 Check it out and let me know your favorite
