Sunday Snippets ✂️ #53
How to be your own healthcare advocate, the everyday activity that can reveal your brain's age, a video on how to reset your brain with your breath and Cindy's Speaks about her "Do-Over" Child.
Good Morning Everyone and welcome to The Sunday Snippets. As you read today’s snippets I will be on a plane heading home from New York with my husband Tim. We are traveling to NY to celebrate my brother-in-laws birthday. 🥳 It’s always fun to head back east where both of our families live. As the sole midwesterners on both sides of the family, we don’t have the opportunity to see our extended families on a regular basis so celebrations like this are meaningful!
The older I get, the more I realize that there are a finite number of opportunities like this and I’m so excited that we are going! ✈️
How To Be Your Own Best Healthcare Advocate.
Now, more than ever, it is essential that we become active participants in our own healthcare. When I was growing up, physicians were put on pedestals and my parents never questioned their advice or recommendations. Their word was gospel in our home. Nowadays I try to carefully listen to what my doctors have to say and if it doesn’t sit well with me, I speak up. Read this article for wonderful advice on how to rethink the patient/doctor relationship.
The Everyday Activity That Can Reveal Your Brain’s Age.
Who would have thought that there is a connection between your walking pace and the rate at which your body and brain age. Although walking is a basic activity, it requires many different systems to work together. If you enjoy a daily stroll, check out this article for some fascinating details.
How To Reset Your Brain With Your Breath
Speaking of brains, I love how this short video explains how your breath can be instrumental in settling down your nervous system. When our children were young and throwing tantrums, my husband and I would tell them to “Blow Out The Candles” and this was a full proof way of getting them to settle down. Sometimes we need to just take a deep breath in the middle of a hectic day!
Evidence Based Benefits of Magnesium
Sometimes I hesitate to share links like this because it’s so easy to get caught up in the need to load up on the “latest and greatest” supplement. But in the interest of being healthcare advocates for ourself (see Snippet #1 ✂️), it’s nice to be informed!
